Still above the parking area, this view appears to the north. The goal
is to get to Indian Point and then follow the ridge up to Tilllamook Head.
The head is crenelated and several "no exit" beaches await around
each point. Crossing from Ecola to Indian and then to TH is sorta like
crossing the Gap at Andersons: it is a commitment. When the tide is low
it is safe because, as this and later photos show, there are plenty of
places to land and the trail back is easy to access. It is about 1.5 miles
from Ecola launch to Bird Point. The point labeled Tillamook Head on maps
is not visible from this view. The large green area near the center of
the photo is a potential launch with the trail cutting across the upper
portion. Charlie Phillips pointed out this potential but no one has tried
it yet. It faces more SW than we need, but on a west day it may be an
alternative.
