The gap map. Take a look at the terrain and determine where you are likely to have trouble when flying low. Hint: behind high ground and over flat terrain. Flying along the cliffs just SW of launch you are traveling SW to NE and a strong wind will push you inland unless you are low crossing the first gap, in which case you may find yourself in a rotor instead. It is easy to see how west wind days can produce difficult crosswind launch conditions.
